Directed by Brook Linder through RadicalMedia, this entrancing film immerses the indie-rock quartet in a tastefully nostalgic world of velvet suits, vintage stage lighting and 50s flatbed film editing.
The short starts with an abstract succession of visually enticing shots that feel effortlessly retro. Neatly aligned engine red snooker balls, the glowing flicker of tanning bed lights, a bright yellow balloon and gaudy cocktail umbrellas make an appearance, all satisfyingly transitioning in time with the track.
The film gains momentum with the song, flitting between footage of the lead singer, Alex Turner, and artistic closeup of a working Steenbeck film editing suit.
Yet again, Arctic Monkeys have proven the importance of not following the crowd and staying true to your style. The video coincided with the release of their latest album, Car, and the subsequent UK tour.
