Burnett, Lighthouse Films Take Dubai Lynx Grand Prix for Melody


“Rocky” is restaged for Melody Entertainment’s “Mother of all Foreign Films,” the TV/Cinema Grand Prix winner.

The winners of the 2010 Dubai Lynx TV/ Cinema awards are in, and it seems that comedy is king.  A comedy campaign for Melody Entertainment titled “The Mother of all Foreign Films” won the Grand Prix in both the TV/Cinema Category and the Grand Prix for TV Craft

Winners at the Dubai Lynx Awards, the leading creative advertising competition for the Middle East and North Africa, were handed out on 17 March at an awards ceremony held at the newly-opened Palladium in Dubai Media City.  After judging 1364 entries, the jury awarded a total of 156 Dubai Lynx trophies. There were 17 trophies presented in the Interactive category, 9 in TV/Cinema, 6 in Integrated and 4 in Radio. In the new Craft category, there were 16 awards presented in total – 9 in Print Craft and 7 in Film Craft.  The Media category was the strongest with a total of 40 winners, followed by Direct & Sales Promotion with 26 and Print and Outdoor with 19 each.

This year’s Interactive Grand Prix went to Memac Ogilvy Label Tunisia for SFTP’s ‘Boga Cidre’ ad.  The Integrated Grand Prix went to Elephant, Cairo for ‘89 Fans from 89’ for Coca-Cola.

The Grand Prix Campaign went to Melody’s Aflam TV Channel for brilliant parodies of “Rocky,” “Titanic,” “Dances with Wolves,” “Braveheart,” and “Seven.”  The campaign was directed by Mohamed Hamdalla for Lighthouse Films.

The Gold Campaign in TV/Cinema went to Coca-Cola for “Burger Shop,” “Taxi” and “Grocer,” via agency Elephant in Cairo and produced by Broadcast/Cairo.  Coca-Cola also took home the Silver Campaign for “Jason,” “Twins” and “Bees,” again via Elephant, produced by Target Pictures/Prague.

Alfa Telecommunications also won the Silver Campaign for “DOB,” Electricity Counter” and “Car Meter,” via Leo Burnett/Beirut, produced by Independent Productions/Beirut.

Bronze Lion winners include Propaganda Films in Tunis, which won for “Bollywood Man” for Club Chocolate; Big Kahuna Films in Dubai, which won for “Pencaps” for Kit Kat; The Talkies in Dubai, which won for “Extra Strong” for Vape Insect Repellant, and City Films in Beirut, which won for “Off the Ground” for Wataniya Airlines.

Memac Ogilvy & Mather Dubai was named with 2010 Dubai Lynx Agency of the Year, while JWT was named Network of the Year.
