Directed by Paul Ward and produced by Stink Studios Berlin, this exhilarating video – which has deservedly just won the Grand Prix award at Ciclope Africa – features a 21-year-old Senegalese surfer whose following of Animism is prevalent among surfers throughout Africa.
Animism is based on the idea that everything – objects, plants, animals or entities such as the ocean – is sentient. Titled Luck is Alive, the film encapsulates this way of relating to the world: a sense of the aliveness of chance, and a sense that belief in good luck will lead you to be lucky.
Supporting the brand's launch of Mami Wata's SS22 range and a pop-up store in LA, the mixed-media film features spectacular live-action imagery blended with arresting dice-themed animation by Mama Wati Creative and VFX from Tetaki Studios all slickly edited together by Strangelove.
