Toast Sandwich, Jacked Fairybread, Not-Fried Rice and Kiwi Onion Carbonara are but some of the many fire-free offerings that New Zealand’s Fire and Emergency Department suggest to safely satisfy the late night cravings, without burning the house down.
This effective campaign directed by Sam Stuchbury, which emphasises the dangers of cooking with heat when drunk or high, is based on the statistics that one in four house fires start in the kitchen, and 50% of all fatal fires involve alcohol or drugs.
The initiative plays on the NZ slang word for drunk, which is ‘cooked’, and consists of a tongue-in-cheek cook book and series of short videos in which the real-life, steaming citizens of Aotearoa put the recipes to the test.
