To capture the world of vintage motorcycle racing, it's only right that the format is of similar antiquity.
Shot in 8mm and capturing the spirit and stubbornness of the racers who frequent it, director Noah Conopask's authentic and engaging film The Reason captures the Barber Vintage Motorcycle Festival in all its oil-stained glory.
Initially commissioned by makers of purpose-built riding products, REV’IT!, as a series of still photographs, the collaboration soon evolved into the genesis of the short film, a finer format in which to give voice to the passions that power the community. Constructing the images into a stream-of-consciousness montage, the short's form is found in the heartfelt testimonials that accompany the action.
“Racing and riding is not all about chaos," explains Conopask. "There is a harmony to it. Happiness. Warmth. Optimism. I hope when people watch this film it gives a little escape from the heaviness of the world. We all need more of that right now.
“Riding a motorcycle is a huge part of my life. It’s a thing that gives me creative inspiration, meditation and comradery. It connects me to a community I love.”
