Revealing that an individual's home energy accounts for a significant 26% of their carbon footprint, the campaign is a perfectly scripted call-to-arms against the tyranny of the climate emergency.
“We don’t need hope, we are hope. Just look around. You. Them. Us... We can help change climate change. And it all starts at home,” the 60-second spot tells us.
Created by 20something London and directed by Knucklehead's Siri Bunford, the spot, called The Home Front, tells us that if all UK households took the steps to make their homes zero carbon, this would equate to saving 101,193,391 tonnes per year, which is equivalent to 22% of the UK's total carbon emissions.
“All the people we featured in the spot are devoted to green issues and all really doing their bit," says Bunford. "We cast them all for their deep commitment to the issue of climate change. I think there’s an integrity to the spot that comes out of that, from having put the spotlight on people who are doing their bit and should be an inspiration to us all.”
The climate crisis is intensifying," adds Will Thacker, 20somthing's co-founder. "We are increasingly surrounded by unrelenting doomsday reports and overwhelming evidence – not to mention examples – of the planet reaching its breaking-point, and it can all feel very feel bleak. People feel powerless, paralysed by the scale of the problem, and it’s affecting the nation’s psyche. Eco-anxiety is on the rise. A UK survey* found 40% of 16-24-year-olds feel "overwhelmed" by climate change. OVO’s new campaign has been created to provide some good news and help restore a feeling of agency across the nation."
