Forget Game Of Thrones and Harry Potter, most adults-of-a-certain-age's first exposure to far-reaching fantasy and fire-belching lizards was from cult classic kids animation Dungeons & Dragons. Taking its cues from the ever-popular role playing game of the same name, the show's short run from 1983-1985 belies it's evergreen appeal (and endless re-runs) to all children of the 80s.
Clearly spotting the nostalgia-tickling charm the iconic characters hold, agency DPZ&T/Sao Paulo and production company Saigon have brought to life the Ranger, Barbarian, Magician, Thief, Cavalier and Acrobat for a slickly produced Renault commercial.
Full of memory-sparking moments (Hank the Ranger's magical bow and adorable unicorn Uni being particular highlights), director Vellas' pacey momentum and visual effects that aren't far off GoT's make this less of a car ad and more of a statement of intent for a new, live-action series. Climaxing with what could be considered the 'true' ending the show (the original tragically cut off in its prime before revealing if the protagonists ever made their way home), this lovely slice of D&D action makes us want to head back into the fairground and search for the Dungeon Master.
