Commissioned by agency Catbird for youth protection charity Bellefaire, Value You is a sensitive PSA that showcases the immediate danger of trafficking in North America.
Directed by Manddy Wyckens (Studio AKA), the film explores one young woman’s journey as she starts to feel trapped and isolated, and eventually, ends up totally alone. The animation is beautifully textured and layered, inspired by cut-paper and social media graphics. It shifts smoothly, easily going from one frame to the next scene to the next situation. The end is warm, uplifting, and gently shows the audience a way out.
Value You is boldly drawn, with characters that take up the whole screen. Says Wyckens, “the most challenging part was figuring out how to represent complex emotions; depersonalization, isolation, and entrapment, while staying relatable.”
