From mythology to martial arts to cereal mascots, the image of the tiger is deeply embedded in visual culture across the world, but a sighting of the real thing is sadly becoming increasingly rare.
This gorgeously-crafted and captivating short film, directed by Walter Stoehr through Simon & Paul, artistically captures the big cat’s iconic status, set to a moving narration of William Blake’s poem, Tyger Tyger. The powerful visuals draw to a close as text informs us of the beloved mammal’s paradoxical endangered status, as a result of illegal slash-and-burn forest fires for bio-diesel, tobacco, paper and palm oil.
To avoid contributing to the exploitation of animals, the production used a mix of real footage and cutting-edge CGI to recreate the tiger's natural habitat. “We wanted to convey the tiger’s beauty and power without causing harm,” said Stoehr. “By combining small-scale, intimate production with 16mm film and advanced CGI, we were able to craft a world that feels both authentic and immersive".
