With a clear, understated pedigree to her work, and an obvious aptitude for capturing nuanced performances, it’s clear why You Are Here have snapped up young narrative director Aisha Schliessler.

Spending her formative years as actor, Schliessler understands the delicate line one treads when drawing performances out of subjects. As such there is a beautiful subtlety to her work, her characters quietly demanding the audience’s attention, her narratives unfolding patiently; with poise and intimacy.

A third-generation film maker, life behind the camera is second nature to Schliessler. Daughter of a renowned cinematographer, she describes a keen awareness of her father’s craft being part of her artistic identity from an early age. Her carefully considered shot-composition and subtle art direction speak clearly of someone whose blood courses-thick with the language of cinema.

Living and working in Los Angeles, California, Schliessler has worked across a wide range of projects including short films, music videos, and commercials, all of which have featured on notable platforms such as Free The Work, Booooooom TV, Girls In Film, No Budge, and Film Shortage.

Writing her own work, Schliessler’s 2019 short, Rhinestone Blue, was screened at several festivals, including The Vail Film Festival, Beverly Hills Film Festival, and the Idyllwild International Festival of Cinema. The film also went on to win a Telly Award, a Cannes Corporate Media & TV Award, and picked up Best Short Drama at The Valley Film Festival.

Last year, Schliessler completed another short film Sticky, optioned her first feature script, and was selected to be a part of the inaugural directing fellowship residence at San Francisco agency Goodby Silverstein & Partners.

Other recent projects include the music video for Josie by Liza Owen & Epic Records, a largescale social campaign for Peloton, and the short film The Call, starring Juno Temple, which won Best Short at the Cinelounge Film Festival in 2021.

She is currently in development on her first feature film.
