Directed by acclaimed filmmaker and keen wave rider Keith Malloy and produced by Bimarian Films and 805 Beer, Mind Surfing tells the story of 28-year-old Santa Barbara native Conner Coffin, who’s become one of the world’s leading surf champions.

Shot entirely in black and white, contemporary scenes of Conner and his brother Parker, also a professional surfer, navigating enormous rollers, hanging out with other surf dudes or just chilling at home, are interspersed with charming grainy archive footage of the brothers as kids, clutching their first boards and heading out into the waves.

Although primarily a celebration of the sport, this 19-minute film also focuses on the brothers’ relationship, both professional and personal, and with contributions from the Coffin parents, and Conner and Parker’s own childhood reminiscences, the project has a warmth and sweetness that underscores the awe-inspiring surf scenes.

Coffin comes across as immensely likeable, lit up from within by his passion for all things ocean-based, and it’s as much of a joy seeing him larking about on his fishing boat as watching him execute those spectacular moves on the water.
