Despite Christmas being a time filled with joy and hope for most, BBDO's Christmas spot for American Red Cross serves as a stark reminder that disasters don’t take a break for the holidays.
Directed by Martin Stirling through Partizan, the campaign plays on classic Christmas ad tropes; a family prepares for the holidays, a young girl puts up handmade decorations and wishes for snow, underscored by a heartwarming acoustic song.
As she gazes out of the window longingly, it suddenly appears that her Christmas wish has come true. She runs outside, catching a single snowflake in her palm, but the magical moment takes a saddening turn as we realise the snow is in fact ash falling from her neighbours burning home.
