Christmas sucks. By which we mean it’s fine if you’re well stocked with friends, family, fairy lights and sociable funtimes, but if you’re alone; maybe old, retired and bereaved, it can suck like a big sucky thing.

Particularly if you’re surrounded by fun-loving neighbours who have no idea of moderation when it comes to exterior Yuletide decor.

This sweet ad, Spread the Merry, directed by Rabbit Content’s James Rouse, sees a little boy share the joy with his lonely neighbour, the aptly named Mr Grieves, who initially wants to duck out of all festive fandango as it reminds him of the loss of his wife.

Noticing that the widower has the only house on his street without Christmas decor, the boy takes it upon himself to spread the festive sparkle by giving him a surprise gift that he's picked up at his local Post Office.

Amazing how a mini-mirror ball and a torch can make Christmas way less sucky.
