‘Ma’ anyone? No, it’s not your mum, it’s the Japanese concept that the space between objects is as important as the objects themselves?
This and other thought-provoking aphorisms are dispensed in this clever set of nine idents that were directed by Basak Erol of Blink Productions and highlight Confused.com’s joint sponsorship of ITV and STV’s Rugby World Cup coverage.
Each one opens with a Japanese symbol and its translation followed by a rugby-themed example of its meaning. For example 'Nintai', meaning ‘with perseverance we can endure the unbearable’, is illustrated by a rugby player giving it his all.
The concept nicely conflates a Japanese aesthetic of sophisticated simplicity with the brand’s aim to offer clarity in a financial products marketplace often mired in befuddlement.
