The 15-minute short, The Invisible Wall, follows a trio of runners who traverse the length of the US/Mexican border meeting the people who call the area home.
TNF US Ultra Runner, Mike Foote, TNF Mexico Ultra Runner, Mauricio Carvajal, and TNF Mexican-American Ultra Runner, Mario Mendoza Jr. chat to such characters as a ranger at Big Bend National Park who proudly champions the awe-inspiring natural resource, explaining “we work a lot with our Mexican counterparts; we share our knowledge to help us take care of this place together.”
It’s a covert message of cooperation that celebrates inclusion rather than division.
Then there’s rancher Rocky MacDonald in the small (as in population of 49) border town of Hachita, who holds dual US/Mexican citizenship and whose great grandfather served on both sides in the Mexican Revolution in 1910-1920.
Members of the Tohono O-odham Reservation, explain how they have tribe members and sacred sites on both sides of the border.
Finally, in Tijuana, the trio encounter a cross-border running group, one of whom says, “it doesn’t matter if you’re American or Mexican, everyone runs together – that’s the beauty… As runners we don’t have borders, we share a common feeling.”
